How do I know when it's time to clean the carpet?

Carpets can hide up to 1 pound of dirt per square foot before they even look like they need to be cleaned. And this isn't any kind dirt... this is years of dead skin, hair, oils, dander, dust, and allergens built up over the years. Carpets catch and hold all this stuff out of our breathing zone. But if not cleaned, it can get full and pollute the air quality of your home. If you wait until it looks dirty, you've waited too long! This is why The Carpet and Rug Institute recommends a professional deep cleaning every 12 to 18 months to maintain the health of your home and quality of your carpet.

High Soil Traffic Abrasion Damage

Cleaning not only looks nice and is healthier for you, but it maintains the quality of your carpet by protecting the integrity of the fibers. Soil inside of carpet fibers is abrasive and scratches the carpet like sandpaper when walked on.

Most carpets are made of a type of woven plastic, (nylon is derived from the same petroleum product as plastic bottles). This means when the fibers are scratched up, they are permanently damaged, changing their texture and causing shadowing. This is called high soil traffic abrasion damage. You may notice that some of your carpet fibers have a different texture in areas like doorways where there is more dirt being ground into the carpet.

No matter what state your carpet is in, give Jen's Carpet Cleaning a call and we would be happy to come and assess your home's needs, free of charge.
